Open Hardware… the Next BIG Thing in Mobile?

Matt McCrann | Think Mobile | August 20, 2012

Users are already capable of modifying the look and feel of their mobile devices and computers thanks to open source operating systems, software, and their own creativity.

The next frontier is open source hardware. The demand is already there, the market’s creativity/innovation isn’t going to stop. It’s only a matter of time before someone gives us what we want… control over our hardware.

We’re already seeing the impact of open source software on the mobile industry – Android anyone? And the open hardware movement has seen success with its pioneers so far as well, Arduino, Raspberry Pi and OUYA represents the first wave of this. So it’s only a matter of time before we can expect to see a direct move into the mobile market for open hardware initiatives.
