Open Source Medical Software – OpenMRS

The article starts by presenting the medical domain and its corresponding software applications, their usage in improving patient care, as well as the unique advantages that an Open-Source approach brings to the field.

A description of today’s tools in the medical industry is presented and the different purposes of these programs enumerated. Specific Open-Source initiatives are enumerated. An algorithm for acquiring system behavior information based on image features is presented.

OpenMRS, one of the industry’s leading medical information software packages and also an Open-Source solution, is described and the benefits it brings to the users are mentioned. Conclusions on the directions of development in the field are delivered.
