BPM helps realize patient-centered care and better outcomes

NEEDHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Object Management Group® (OMG®), an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium, today announced it will host the Business Process Modeling for Health Workshop at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans Hotel on September 27 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Registration costs $149 USD and is open to the public.

“The promise of business process modeling using BPMN™ and its complementing languages to allow for health workflows to be shared is both timely and fortuitous,” says Ken Rubin, OMG Healthcare Task Force co-chair and a Director of Standards for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. “Healthcare institutions are under pressure to collaborate with partner institutions to share patient health information and correlate medical data to improve patient outcomes. The work being presented at this event closes a critical gap to allow healthcare provider organizations to provide timely adoption of industry best-practices.”

Ken RubinThe Workshop will feature experts from the healthcare field and business modeling who will explain how OMG business process modeling (BPM) standards can improve the portability of clinical processes and workflows. The agenda for the day will focus on:

  • Demonstration of a pilot leveraging OMG BPMN, CMMN™, and DMN™ standards: business process modeling notation, case management model and notation, and decision management notation, to demonstrate the efficacy of these languages in meeting the clinical workflow needs to manage a healthy pregnancy protocol. This work is co-sponsored by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
  • Lessons learned presentation from the above pilot, including its findings as part of the community body-of-knowledge, and relating this workstream to the BPM Field Guide effort.
  • Walkthrough and Discussion of BPM Health Field Guide, which provides guidance to the health process modeling community to allow and foster the development of sharable clinical processes and process models. This document will serve as both a conformance setting and style guide to ensure interoperable and sharable process models.
