In an effort to advance cancer data sharing and improve the quality and coordination of patient care, three of the nation's leading health and technology organizations have established a core set of data elements and recommended technical specifications (the Minimal Common Oncology Data Elements, or "mCODE") that are essential for capturing and reporting the characteristics, treatments, and outcomes of every cancer patient and should be contained in each patient's electronic health record (EHR).

OSEHRA 2014 Summit to Rock EHR World
The world of electronic health records (EHRs) is going to be rocked next month as the Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) holds its third annual summit in Bethesda, Maryland. After four years of quietly building a organization to promote VistA and open source in healthcare, as well as a central host for the core VistA code, OSEHRA is now emerging as a major force in the world of EHRs. The conference has become a gathering place for not just the VistA community but for major health IT players in the federal government, including the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and Indian Health Service (IHS), and major forces in the open health field. OSEHRA 2014: Modernizing the VistA GUI
As we approach the 2014 OSEHRA EHR Summit, the topics of EHR Usability and EHR web enablement have become major points of discussion. OSEHRA To Hold Innovation Webinar on Open Source Clinical Quality Tools
OSEHRA is going to be holding a special one-hour Innovation Webinar tomorrow as part of the National Health IT Week. The focus will be on open source applications and tools that are gaining traction for clinical quality measures. Well known and very mature is popHealth. The webinar participants will discuss the latest upgrades in version 5.0 of the software. They will also present a new entrant into the field. That would be the Cedar project, an open source tool for testing the strength of Electronic Clinical Quality Measure (eCQM) collection systems that receive Quality Reporting Document Architecture (QRDA) files.

Plan VI - OSEHRA Launching Internationalized Version of VistA
OSEHRA is pleased to announce the launch of a new initiative to create an internationalized version of the VistA Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Originally developed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, VistA is periodically released to the public via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and enhanced by the OSEHRA community to create OSEHRA VistA, an open source resource for the entire EHR community. The internationalization effort, dubbed Plan VI, aims to expand VistA capability by making it compatible with various different languages and creating a reference implementation for global use.

The OSEHRA Open Source Summit on Global Collaboration in Healthcare IT on September 3 – 5, 2014, at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center outside Washington D.C. OSEHRA, the Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance, is an emerging leader in the advancement of open source electronic health record (EHR) software and related health information technology. The goal of VistA Community Meetings is for those involved in the VistA Community to network & collaborate, i.e., to share ideas and work, with the objective of moving VistA & the VistA community forward. Compared to most meetings, VistA Community Meetings are relatively unstructured. The agenda is always a "living" agenda, because attendees are free to change it – even during the meeting – in order to better meet their objectives.
