Federal CIO Says Smart Spending Should Keep Gov't IT Secure

With Congress facing $1.2 trillion in budget cuts, Federal Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel says funding for cybersecurity initiatives will likely be affected. But with smart planning, government information technology should not be placed at risk.

"Cybersecurity is in everything we do in government, so we can't say we're just going to cut back on our capabilities around cyber," VanRoekel says in an interview with Information Security Media Group's GovInfoSecurity. "We have to think about what programs may actually be cut back and then what's the impact on any stance we may have in the realm of cybersecurity."
