CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LiveData, Inc., today announced that the Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare facility in Orlando has purchased LiveData PeriOp Manager, the company’s healthcare operational intelligence solution for perioperative suites. Working with LiveData partners KARL STORZ Endoscopy-America, Inc., and Document Storage Systems, Inc., the companies’ integrated patient safety solution will be installed in all 10 of the operating rooms at the new Orlando VA Medical Center, which will open in 2014.

KARL STORZ Endoscopy-America is leading the technology installation, which will include the KARL STORZ OR1® operating room integration systems. Document Storage Systems, Inc. (DSS) will fully integrate the system with the Orlando VA Medical Center’s VistA (Veteran’s Health Information System and Technology Architecture) Electronic Health Record (EHR). The combined technologies will provide clear and immediate access to critical information about the patient, procedure, and workflow, enabling every member of the perioperative team to fully and effectively focus on the patient.

The Orlando VA Medical Center will serve an area of more than 90,000 veteran patients in East Central Florida, and is one of seven members of the VISN 8 Healthcare System. Located on a 65-acre campus in southeast Orange County, the 1.2 million square-foot facility is scheduled to open in phases during 2014.

LiveData PeriOp Manager integrates real-time data with workflow automation to coordinate and manage patient care throughout the perioperative suite. PeriOp Manager includes:

  • OR-Schedule Board: a real-time view of the day’s surgical cases, enabling staff to improve patient throughput.
  • PreOp Board: a single, dynamic, operational view of patient status and preoperative case workflow.
  • OR-Dashboard: an integrated display of patient data from hospital medical records and physiological devices with automated surgical workflow and patient safety information including Active Time Out, a real-time, interactive safe surgery checklist incorporated into the workflow. With seamless VistA integration provided by DSS Integration Toolkits, the use of Active Time Out helps the VA achieve the mandate of the VA National Center for Patient Safety Directive 2010-023: Ensuring Correct Surgery.
  • Family Waiting Board: a display enabling families to track the progress of their loved ones as they move through the surgical process.
  • Analytics: comprehensive data analysis and reporting, using big data techniques to transform real-time operational data into actionable quality, compliance, and efficiency intelligence.

KARL STORZ OR1 integrated operating rooms provide centralized control of essential surgical equipment and systems, managing endoscopic and peripheral devices. OR1 systems are the audio and video control backbone of the OR, as well as the communication and documentation bridge for all video flow into and out of the OR. Building on over 13 years of proven medical integration design, each room offers future-proof infrastructures, and a user-friendly design to optimize workflow.

The VA’s VistA system provides an integrated inpatient and outpatient EHR for VA patients, and administrative tools to help the VA deliver the best quality medical care to Veterans. DSS Integration Toolkits modernize VistA by providing seamless integration of commercial-off-the-shelf solutions that improve quality and productivity, like LiveData PeriOp Manager, to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs VistA system.
