Del Mar, Calif., March 1, 2018 - At HIMSS March 5-8, Humetrix is proud to be part of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Blue Button® API program launch to enable Medicare beneficiaries to connect their Medicare claims data to the applications, services, and research programs they trust.

Three-time award winner of the ONC Investing in Innovation competition for Blue Button, Humetrix has been a fierce advocate and a Blue Button technology industry leader from the start, providing Veterans, TRICARE and Medicare beneficiaries mobile access to their Blue Button data with the iBlueButton mobile platform.

Today’s CMS Blue Button API program is delivering in earnest on the goal of the Blue Button initiative to give Americans with the most important healthcare needs, Medicare beneficiaries, the technology means to better manage their care and receive safer and more cost-effective healthcare.

On average every year, a Medicare beneficiary sees seven different physicians in four different locations, and most of the time none of these physicians will have the full medical history of their patients, which can be the cause of medical errors, unnecessary tests, and avoidable healthcare expenses. Veterans and military personnel and their families experience the same healthcare issues, as their care takes place in both VA or the military health facilities and the private sector.

The CMS Blue Button API provides historical claim data for over 53M beneficiaries. The Medicare Blue Button FHIR API enables Medicare beneficiaries using the CMS approved mobile application of their choice to access four years of their Part A, B, and D claims data.

Bettina Experton, M.D., M.P.H.The Humetrix iBlueButton application, available for Android and iOS devices, gives users the ability to access, review, annotate, store and share their Medicare claim data directly and securely on their mobile devices. With iBlueButton, Medicare claim data are transformed - directly and in real time on the user’s mobile device - into a longitudinal health record. iBlueButton translates claim data into easy to view, research, and annotatable sections that compile lists of medications, diagnoses, immunizations, allergies and the detailed history of physician or ED visits, hospitalizations, imaging services, tests or procedures. By providing Medicare beneficiaries with their Blue Button enabled health records, iBlueButton reduces the risk of medical errors and costly redundant tests resulting from an incomplete picture of the patient medical history. iBlueButton in the hands of patients also gives Medicare providers and ACOs a valuable care management tool.

“Healthcare IT policies and investments to drive health information exchange have essentially been directed at providers,” said Dr. Bettina Experton, CEO of Humetrix. “With Medicare Blue Button API enabled applications such as iBlueButton, CMS is now investing in the power of technology in the hands of patients to help cure the interoperability challenges that prohibit healthcare providers from exchanging their patients’ health records, driving costly medical errors and redundant care, starting with the patient population group at higher risk – Medicare beneficiaries”.
