Continuent Tungsten 2.0 for the Open Cloud

Press Release | Continuent | April 23, 2013

Continuent Tungsten 2.0 offers an advanced MySQL multi-master multi-site solution, which can be rapidly deployed in the Amazon AWS, Rackspace Cloud, other clouds or in your private datacenter

Percona Live: MySQL Conference & Expo: SANTA CLARA, CA (PRWEB) APRIL 23, 2013 -- Continuent, Inc., a leading provider of clustering and replication solutions for MySQL™ and Oracle®, today announced Continuent Tungsten 2.0. Continuent Tungsten 2.0 adds important new capabilities that allow enterprises and Web companies running business-critical applications to achieve affordable, efficient high availability (HA) and performance scaling using MySQL.

Continuent Tungsten 2.0 pushes the envelope in multi-master, multi-site MySQL database clusters, either on-premise or in the cloud, with the following new features:

  • Continuent Tungsten 2.0 adds administrative APIs as well as optimized installation and upgrade that lay the foundation for rapid deployment at scale in cloud environments.
  • Continuent Tungsten 2.0 integrates important new replication capabilities, including parallel replication, which has been shown to reduce slave lag by a factor of 100x or more based on initial deployments in very large sites. Continuent Tungsten 2.0 is also certified for cross-cloud and multi-site operation, including primary/disaster recovery as well as multi-master topologies.
  • Continuent Tungsten 2.0 boosts connectivity speed through the addition of connection pooling and more efficient connection management across DBMS instances. This improves the transparency of Tungsten clusters, which from applications point of view makes multiple off-the-shelf DBMS servers acting as a single, highly available server.

Continuent Tungsten 2.0 allows you to set up a multi-site data service, scale up read operations, perform zero-downtime maintenance, automatically fail over, and switch sites with a single command. Continuent Tungsten 2.0 makes it simple to create new services in the Amazon™ cloud, Rackspace® cloud or in your private datacenter, and to manage them all from a single point.

“We’ve responded to challenges that our customers are having with Amazon RDS. With Continuent Tungsten 2.0 we are addressing critical issues of quick failover, failover between regions, and database maintenance without downtime to applications that RDS does not handle,” says Robert Hodges, CEO at Continuent. “Even more important, we remove the lock-in of single-cloud solutions like Amazon RDS.”

“Continuent has undoubted expertise when it comes to MySQL clustering and replication, and is expanding its perspective to take a wider role in database management,” says Matt Aslett, Research Director for data management and analytics at 451 Research. “With Continuent Tungsten 2.0, we like the concept of enabling users to quickly provision and configure database services combined with the ability to directly manage that functionality if required or desired. While adoption of cloud database services has been limited to date, Continuent is well positioned to capitalize on, and encourage, greater adoption.”

“The only thing Marketo has more passion for than its product, is its customers. By leveraging the Continuent Tungsten platform, we have increased our ability to provide higher levels of availability and uptime, including complex database upgrades and operations in production," says Nick Bonfiglio, VP Operations at Marketo.
