Press Release | OSEHRA | October 17, 2016

Arlington, VA – The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) announced today that Mike O’Neill, CEO of MedicaSoft, has been elected Chairman of the OSEHRA Board of Directors.

O’Neill, an architect of VA’s open source strategy and a thought leader in the open source community, has served several years on the Board and was most recently re-elected in September 2015 as a representative of OSEHRA’s Organizational Members.  He assumed the Chairmanship on October 6.  “It is an honor to be chosen for this role,” said O’Neill.  “This is an exciting time for OSEHRA, with the new Federal Government policy on open source reaffirming our mission and impact.”

“With diverse experience in both Government and industry, as well as direct involvement in electronic health record development, O’Neill is an ideal Chairman to help lead the community,” said Seong K. Mun, CEO of OSEHRA.  Prior to joining MedicaSoft, O’Neill was Senior Advisor and member of the founding team of the VA Center for Innovation at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.  A graduate of Virginia Tech, he worked in multiple technology roles prior to his service at VA.

O’Neill succeeds LTG (ret.) James B. Peake, M.D., who will continue on the Board as Chairman Emeritus.   Peake has served as Chairman of the OSEHRA Board of Directors since its inception in 2011.  Following a distinguished military career that culminated as the Surgeon General of the U.S. Army, he served as the 6th Secretary of Veterans Affairs from 2007 through 2009.  He is currently Senior Vice-President for the Health Industry at CGI, responsible for the overarching US and European strategy for growing CGI's business in the evolving Health and Health Insurance industries. Peake will serve a two-year term as Chairman Emeritus.

“General Peake’s leadership and active participation during the early years of OSEHRA have established a firm foundation and set a high standard for all of us,” said Mun.  “We are very pleased he will continue to provide his unique perspective and insight by working with Mike O’Neill and our Board as we continue to broaden our service to the open source community.”
