Key Architect of VA’s Open Source Strategy Elected Chairman of the Board of OSEHRA

The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) announced today that Mike O’Neill, CEO of MedicaSoft, has been elected Chairman of the OSEHRA Board of Directors. O’Neill, an architect of VA’s open source strategy and a thought leader in the open source community, has served several years on the Board and was most recently re-elected in September 2015 as a representative of OSEHRA’s Organizational Members.  He assumed the Chairmanship on October 6.  “It is an honor to be chosen for this role,” said O’Neill.  “This is an exciting time for OSEHRA, with the new Federal Government policy on open source reaffirming our mission and impact.”

OSEHRA 2012: Innovation in Open Source EHRs and Health IT to be Focus at 1st Annual Open Source EHR Summit and Workshop

The Open Source Electronic Health Record Agent (OSEHRA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating innovation in electronic health record software, kicked off its First Annual Open Source EHR Summit & Workshop. The event is the culmination of a year of growth for OSEHRA, which was launched as a result of an agreement between the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense in 2011. OSEHRA's goal is to drive rapid innovation in electronic health records and health IT through an open source software process involving the community of software developers, clinicians, business leaders and other practitioners.

OSEHRA 2014 Summit to Rock EHR World

The world of electronic health records (EHRs) is going to be rocked next month as the Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) holds its third annual summit in Bethesda, Maryland. After four years of quietly building a organization to promote VistA and open source in healthcare, as well as a central host for the core VistA code, OSEHRA is now emerging as a major force in the world of EHRs. The conference has become a gathering place for not just the VistA community but for major health IT players in the federal government, including the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and Indian Health Service (IHS), and major forces in the open health field. OSEHRA 2014: Patricia Abbott Elected to OSEHRA Board

The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) announced today that Patricia Abbott, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, Associate Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing, was elected to the OSEHRA Board of Directors by its members at the 2014 OSEHRA Open Source Summit. Abbott, the first woman and the first nurse elected to the Board of Directors, will begin her three- year term in October, following the departure of founding Director John D. Halamka, MD, MS, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. “It has been a great pleasure to serve on the OSEHRA Board during its emergence as a unifying force in the open source community," said Halamka, “and I’m delighted to be succeeded by someone with Dr. Abbott’s clinical and academic experience.”
