The deadline for OSEHRA Summit 2014 abstract submissions and Academic Abstract Competition is coming up on June 7th. The OSEHRA Summit has become the premier open health conference and it is a unique opportunity to present the latest advancements in open source health information technology. OSEHRA Community Undertakes Long-Elusive Alignment of VistA Code Base
The first Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) VistA Code Alignment Workshop was held in Oakland, California, November 19-21, 2014. An unprecedented effort, the workshop brought together 27 principal developers of VistA from government and private organizations dedicated to open source solutions for the challenges facing healthcare. The primary objective of the workshop was to achieve compatibility among contributed code within the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA), the EHR software used at approximately 2,500 facilities worldwide. “A VistA code base with a common community-aligned platform will allow an unimpeded exchange of innovations and reduce duplicitous developments among users and developers,” said Dr. Seong K. OSEHRA Receives ANSI Accreditation as a Standards Development Organization
The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) is pleased to announce that it has been accredited as a Standards Development Organization (SDO) by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). This accreditation allows OSEHRA to begin utilizing its approved operating procedures to document consensus and create OSEHRA-sponsored American National Standards. “We are very proud to have received accreditation,” said Dr. Seong K. Mun, President of OSEHRA. “The forthcoming OSEHRA quality standard and the associated certification process will raise trust and confidence in newly introduced code, adding value and strength to the open source community.”

Pontiac General Hospital in Detroit Selects OpenVista Healthcare IT Platform
Medsphere Systems Corporation...today announced that Pontiac General Hospital has selected the OpenVista® electronic health record (EHR) system for implementation. Looking toward a financial rebirth, the new owners of the 306 licensed-bed hospital will use OpenVista to improve management practices and clinical workflows as they also grow clinical staff and expand available services. The rebirth of Pontiac General is an endeavor led by Sanyam Sharma with the support of his family, Dr. Sanjay and Priyam Sharma. PwC to Propose Open Source EHR System to the Department of Defense
PwC US today announced its intent to pursue the Department of Defense (D0D) Healthcare Management Systems Modernization (DHMSM) Electronic Health Record (EHR) contract. State University of New York at Albany Launches VistA EHR Studies Program
The Albany Campus of the State University of New York (SUNY) has launched a new VistA EHR Studies program—the most comprehensive one of its kind in the United States. The program, which began on March 24, provides students the basis to learn and manage VistA’s fast-growing open source electronic health record (EHR) system. Ibáñez to Discuss Teaching the RDF Framework for use in Medical Data Sharing During vxJourney Program
Luis Ibáñez, one of the best known advocates of open source solutions in healthcare will be interviewed Wednesday, May 14, by Fabian Lopez in the popular vxJourney weekly webinar. Ibanez will be discussing the importance of teaching the Resource Description Framework (RDF) in college courses. RDF is a framework that facilitates the consistent representation of data and is a core element of what is called the Semantic Web.
