Linux ETC

The Linux ETC Company (Linux ETC) has more than 20 years of experienced in the use, implementation, and training in many open technologies including Linux, cloud infrastructure, and cybersecurity. An early advocate on the use of Linux in healthcare, Linux ETC has helped the open source VistA Community adapt the VA’s electronic health record system (EHR) on the Linux platform.

Linux ETC has leveraged its in depth knowledge of Linux-based infrastructure, networking, and security to not only work on servers and data centers, but also in the transition to cloud technologies. Linux ETC’s work in the healthcare industry includes cyber security hardening along with HIPAA compliance and privacy requirements.

Linux ETC’s open systems approach has allowed it to provide a more stable, more secure, and cost effective infrastructure and solutions to its clients.

Here are some of Linux ETC’s areas of expertise:

Linux systems and networking

At the core of core of any enterprise IT infrastructure one will find Linux in some form or another, either running on servers, containers, or as the networking or storage appliance operating system base.  Knowing how to navigate and utilize Linux in these various roles is key to ensure the optimization of one’s IT infrastructure needs and goals.  From the early days of Red Hat Debian, and SUSE, Linux ETC has  seen an continual and progressive evolution of Linux.

While Linux started as a hobby and passion by end users, it has evolved into a professional operating system and framework that powers the Internet, most corporate data centers, and cloud solutions around the world. Linux ETC has risen to the call and will continue to do so with Linux and Open Source based solutions.

Cloud and/or on premise infrastructure

In the early days when the Apache web server first came out, a web site had to use one server.  Server farms were built just to host web sites which in turn became cumbersome if not inefficient.  Then came virtualization concepts of virtual hosting within Apache so that one server could host many websites reducing expenses and resource needs.

IT infrastructure had a similar evolution via VMware (which was then and still is based on Linux) and the Linux “Kernel Virtualization Module” (or “KVM” for short). Virtualization allows one server to host several mini servers to serve different functions.  This evolution progressed further to high availability, scalability, and elasticity within one data center, to then multiple data centers. Thus, the “cloud” concept was born, and continues progressing and evolving further even today.

The Linux ETC Company has actively participated in this technological transition, assisting various clients in the process of evolving and migrating their individual infrastructures so that they may also enjoy such benefits. Linux can cost-effectively enhance one’s IT footprint. Making this footprint  available on demand gives a a company the flexibility to grow and evolve its IT plans and goals as the need arises. This becomes a “win-win” for the company and its customers.

Cyber Security

In this day and age with the advancement and benefits of technology comes the opposite side of the proverbial coin in potential threats to technology. Cyber security preparation to minimize the exposure to threats and risks. It is critical to ensure continuity of operations  and “up time” of one’s IT environment, and protection of critical data within the environment. Whether it is implementing proper processes and protocols,  to hardening the various components within the IT environment, cybersecurity is a necessity in the modern IT world.

The Linux ETC Company has direct experience with FedRAMP (https://www.fedramp.gov), and DISA STIG (Defense Information Systems Agency Security Technical Implementation Guide) to ensure compliance with the following:

  • HIPAA (US Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996)
  • PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard)
  • SOX (US Sarbanes-Oxley Act, otherwise known as "Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act" and "Corporate and Auditing Accountability, Responsibility, and Transparency Act")
  • GDPR (EU General Data Protection Regulation)

The Linux ETC Company strives for a stable, secure, and cost effective IT solution for its clients to have a mutual “win-win” goal.
