Mid Atlantic Disaster Recovery Association (MADRA) to Host Black Sky Seminar
Given increasing threats to America’s critical infrastructure and a proposed infrastructure bill to address those threats, the Mid Atlantic Disaster Recovery Association (MADRA) will be hosting virtual meeting on August 19. The speaker at the meeting will be Mary D. Lasky, Chairman of the InfraGard National Disaster Resilience Council and BC Program Manager at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Lasky will outline the impacts of these threats that are also known as "Black Sky" events.

Researchers Hid Malware Inside an AI's 'Neurons' and It Worked Scarily Well
Neural networks could be the next frontier for malware campaigns as they become more widely used, according to a new study. The study, which was posted to the arXiv preprint server on Monday, found that malware can be embedded directly into the artificial neurons that make up machine-learning models in a way that keeps them from being detected. The neural network would even be able to continue performing its set tasks normally.

Roger Baker: Why VA's Electronic Health Record Mega-Project is Failing
The Department of Veterans Affairs currently is reassessing its $16 billion-plus Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) effort. Faced with productivity and patient safety issues in its initial pilot site, further rollouts of the EHRM have been paused by VA Secretary Denis McDonough. And while VA has not yet announced the details of the actions it will take to correct the EHRM program, those actions must include addressing the program's fundamental problems, not just the readily apparent quality and productivity problems surfaced at the pilot site. Accessibility In Open Source For People With ADHD, Dyslexia, And Autism Spectrum Disorder
For a long time, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, Asperger syndrome, dyslexia, and other neurodiverse conditions were considered things that hold people back. But now, many researchers and employers recognize that neurodiversity is a competitive advantage, especially in technology, and especially when certain accommodations are provided. This is certainly true for me. I'm a 39-year-old teacher in Sweden diagnosed with ADHD and Asperger's (also referred to as Autism Level 1). I'm also an intermediate Linux user and use it daily for Java programming, productivity, and gaming. I've been using Linux since the late 1990s, and I've learned ways open source programs can be made more accessible for people with these conditions.
