The collaboration of health IT vendors has revealed its next step toward making interoperability  a reality for the healthcare industry, according to a statement by the CommonWell Health Alliance. Select provider sites in Illinois, North Carolina, and South Carolina will be the first to use its interoperability service offering, with additional locations to be announced in the months to come.

“Regions within Illinois, North Carolina and South Carolina were chosen because they provide a good footprint of the Alliance’s founding member companies’ health IT systems, along with a strong desire among clients to make interoperability a reality,” the CommonWell Chairman of Board and athenahealth CTO Jeremy Delinsky said in a public statement. “We have the right players on board, and we’re eager and committed to improve care coordination through advancing data liquidity.”

Lake Shore Obstetrics & Gynecology (Chicago, IL), Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital (Elkin, NC), Maria Parham Medical Center (Henderson, NC), Midlands Orthopaedics (Columbia, SC), and Palmetto Health (Columbia, SC) are just some of the provider sites participating in the initial launch.
