Open Access Week 2013 Starts Today

Here at ProfHacker we’ve published many posts about open access, “the free, immediate, online access to the results of scholarly research, and the right to use and re-use those results as you need.”

This has turned into an even more important issue for me as I become more and more involved in efforts to make scholarly resources more accessible to people with disabilities: if your latest [scholarly article | book | digital project | what-have-you] is available in an open access venue (and licensed for re-use) then it’s much, much easier for someone like me to take your scholarship and convert it into a digital braille file (to take one example), or to add captions to your videos (to take another), or to add access keys to a complex hypertext project (to take yet another).
