Alembic Expands Open Source HIE

An open source organization has fixed flaws and augmented the functions of health information exchange software originally developed by federal agencies.

The Alembic Foundation has updated the features of the open source Aurion software, which is commercially available, to make it easier to identify individual providers that are part of a larger integrated organization and are participating in a health information exchange, according to David Riley, Alembic president.

A multi-site provider may receive a single unique identifier but can add digits to the end of the identifier to distinguish specific systems and clinic sites, he said in an announcement May 4.

The multiple assigning authority incorporated in Aurion 4.0 software also makes it possible for an organization participating in multiple health information exchanges to use the same unique identifier across the different exchanges.
