The Latest on the 'Open Source' Health IT Jobs Market

Total employment is expected to increase by 20.5 million jobs from 2010 to 2020. A recent report from the University of California in San Diego (UCSD),  on "Hot Careers for College Graduates in 2012", stated that the hottest of the hot careers is for software developers, especially in regards to mobile technology. A career in health information technology (IT) is also acknowledged to be another one of the hottest vocations for college graduates, with health IT jobs are expected to grow by 20% over the next decade.

Similarly, a recent report from IT CareerFinder.com on '2012 IT Hiring Trends' based on U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, data on IT salaries from Indeed.com, and other sources they found that the top IT skills in demand for 2012 were for:

ITCareerFinder also reported that healthcare will produce more new computer jobs from 2012 through 2020 than any other single industry. Federal government mandates and funding incentives are driving hospitals and physician offices to speed up the adoption and implementation of electronic medical record (EMR) systems. 

Finally, the recent "2012 Linux Jobs Report" prepared by Dice and The Linux Foundation found that the need for open source programming language skills, like Python and Ruby, that power a huge number of Web applications and technologies have hit all-time highs.  They report that there are nearly 2,000 job postings on any given day for personnel skilled in JBoss. Further, job postings for programmers with Android skills and experience are up 33 percent from a year ago.
