Humetrix Receives FCC Chairman's Award for Advancements In Accessibility for SOS QR at M-Enabling Summit

Press Release | Humetrix | June 14, 2016

WASHINGTON, June 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Humetrix, developer of the award-winning SOS QR emergency mobile platform, just received the 2016 FCC Chairman's Award for Advancements in Accessibility (AAA).  SOS QR was recognized as an important tool to help individuals with disabilities lead independent lives, during a keynote address by FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler at this week's M-Enabling Summit, in Washington, D.C.

Available for iOS, Android devices and the Apple Watch, SOS QR lets anyone create an emergency record that includes contacts, medical conditions, medications and allergies, and makes it available via a QR code on the device' lock screen. SOS QR features the ability to call for help by tapping the SOS button on the phone or Apple Watch or "check in" with loved ones via the OK button.  It is available in English, Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, and Portuguese, with automated translation in the language of the emergency responder scanning the code.

Bettina Experton"All of us, regardless of ability, want to live full, independent lives," said Dr. Bettina Experton, CEO of Humetrix. "For those living with physical or cognitive disabilities, SOS QR provides a way to call for help and communicate location via their own phone – and to communicate their medical and disability related needs if they can't speak for themselves. While SOS QR was designed for use by anyone, we are excited about its ability to support Americans with disabilities as they pursue their passions."

As legislative milestones like ADA, IDEA and ABLE continue to expand opportunities for people of all abilities, technologies like SOS QR, support independence through the transformative power of mobile technology.  By making it easy to call for help and share critical personal information in an emergency, SOS QR turns consumer devices into mobile personal alert systems, providing the security and accommodation that people of different abilities need to achieve greater independence.

About SOS QR
In an emergency or other situation when a user cannot speak for himself, first responders and healthcare personnel can scan the SOS QR code on the user's smartphone lock screen with any QR code scanner to access their medical and specific disability information. In addition to providing critical information including names and telephone numbers of emergency contacts, scanning the user's QR code also automatically generates an "Email Auto-Alert" to emergency contacts, including a map of the location of the emergency.
