OSEHRA 2012: Halamka on the Open Source Electronic Health Records Agent Conference

Founded in 2011, OSEHRA supports an open, collaborative community of users, developers, and researchers engaged in advancing electronic health record software and related health information technology. OSEHRA 2012: Oroville Hospital CEO Addresses Open Source EHR Meeting in Washington
Robert Wentz, President and CEO of Oroville Hospital, addressed a packed audience of more than 400 participants at the 1st Annual Open Source EHR Summit held October 17 & 18 at the Gaylord National Conference Center at National Harbor, MD, just outside Washington D.C. Wentz spoke during the keynote opening panel of the conference. The Summit was hosted by the Open Source Electronic Health Records Agent (OSEHRA) organization, the custodial agent of the open source software code for the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs' (VA) VistA EHR system.

OSEHRA 2014 Summit Shows the Future for Open Source EHR's— US Government IT Procurement
The recent 2014 OSEHRA Open Source Summit: Global Collaboration in Healthcare IT, held September 3-5 in Bethesda, MD, was a huge success and clearly marks a watershed moment for open source health information technology (HIT), as well as a transformation in the way that US government agencies procure technology. OSEHRA 2014: Patricia Abbott Elected to OSEHRA Board
The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) announced today that Patricia Abbott, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, Associate Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing, was elected to the OSEHRA Board of Directors by its members at the 2014 OSEHRA Open Source Summit. Abbott, the first woman and the first nurse elected to the Board of Directors, will begin her three- year term in October, following the departure of founding Director John D. Halamka, MD, MS, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. “It has been a great pleasure to serve on the OSEHRA Board during its emergence as a unifying force in the open source community," said Halamka, “and I’m delighted to be succeeded by someone with Dr. Abbott’s clinical and academic experience.”

Thanh Tran, CEO of Zoeticx will speak as a member of the Open Health panel discussion on Wednesday, July 29, at the upcoming OSEHRA Open Source Summit. OSEHRA Awarded VA Open Source Technical Support Contract
The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the Open Source Technical Support and Working Group Services for VA VistA Contract by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The contract scope includes identifying and analyzing available open source software that fulfills VA requirements or enhances functionality, as well as support for Technical Working Groups through which VA can collaborate with the open source community.

OSEHRA Calls for Comments to VA Open Source Policy
Just got an email from Kris Prendergast, community organizer for the Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) calling on the community to provide input to the open source strategy for the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VA, which developed the VistA EHR, widely recognized as the world's best hospital-based EHR, is seeking comments to their next generation IT contract. They are specifically requesting comments and suggestions to their open source strategy. This strategy will be discussed in great detail at the OSEHRA conference next week. Read More »

OSEHRA Receives ANSI Accreditation as a Standards Development Organization
The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) is pleased to announce that it has been accredited as a Standards Development Organization (SDO) by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). This accreditation allows OSEHRA to begin utilizing its approved operating procedures to document consensus and create OSEHRA-sponsored American National Standards. “We are very proud to have received accreditation,” said Dr. Seong K. Mun, President of OSEHRA. “The forthcoming OSEHRA quality standard and the associated certification process will raise trust and confidence in newly introduced code, adding value and strength to the open source community.”
