Bahmni, an open source Electronic Medical Record (EMR) governed by the Bahmni Coalition, was added to the Digital Public Goods Alliance's DPG Registry. ThoughtWorks, a global software consultancy is part of the Bahmni Coalition's core governing committee and was instrumental in conceiving and building Bahmni during its early years. The Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA) and its registry promotes digital public goods in order to create a more equitable world. To become a digital public good, projects are required to meet the DPG Standard ensuring they truly encapsulate open-source principles. Bahmni is one of only 23 projects deemed digital public goods out of more than 500 nominations. The Hospital Information System (HIS) and EMR is a seamless integration of three critical systems: patient medical records, laboratory management and billing. Bahmni has been built on top of OpenMRS, OpenELIS, OpenERP and cm4Chee, an OSS Radiology PACS Server - to be a user-intuitive system customized for use in low-resource areas with limited bandwidth and infrastructure.

Medsphere Systems Corporation and Beauregard Memorial Hospital today announced that Beauregard has received federal reimbursement for the licensing of Medsphere’s OpenVista® electronic health record (EHR). The payment of Stage One Meaningful Use funds to the DeRidder, Louisiana, hospital covers five-year total licensing costs for the OpenVista EHR. A Binghamton University student could change how people think about antibiotics and the environment. Matthew Wersebe studies the effect of antibiotics on wetland ecosystems. “I realized no one was really looking at the effects of antibiotics as a contaminant, so that’s where we started,” says Wersebe, a biology major. Antibiotics kill or inhibit the growth of microorganisms. Bitscopic Inc., a Silicon Valley based healthcare analytics company, announced today they have developed a machine learning prediction model that can identify COVID-19 infected patients using data from standard laboratory blood tests. The model, published in "Clinical Infectious Diseases," was developed using laboratory data from over 75,000 COVID-19 infected Veteran patients receiving care at VA medical centers. Payam Etminani, Bitscopic's CEO, said: "We are very excited by these results, as it demonstrates that inexpensive and easily attainable patient data can be used to construct a diagnostic fingerprint that can identify symptomatic cases of COVID-19. We are learning how the relatively blunt instrument of routine blood tests, through the power of machine learning, can be crafted into something approaching a precision tool."
