Open Data will Improve Healthcare Worldwide

Vice President of Telefonica Europe Dr Mike Short believes that open data could not only improve business models and products, but could also vastly improve the quality of people's lives in remote areas and improve the care that they receive.

"When they start to access the internet that means you're opening up a whole world of services," he continued. "That's very important when it comes to the future of healthcare." He added that in places worldwide where there are little or no hospitals, online healthcare data is crucial.

"It's a critical factor behind the livelihood of a family," he stated. "If you live fifty miles away from a pharmacy, it's rather useful to know before you travel if the drugs are in stock."
