Black Duck, Olliance Group and BearingPoint Introduce Governance Fast Start for GENIVI Members

Press Release | Black Duck Software, GENIVI Alliance | April 24, 2012

Paris, April 24, 2012 – Today at the GENIVI® Alliance All Members Meeting, Black Duck Software, Olliance Group and BearingPoint announced the Governance Fast Start™ for GENIVI Members, a package designed to speed and reduce the cost of development when building products based on GENIVI specifications. Governance Fast Start for GENIVI Members helps development organizations rapidly deploy the policies and processes required to efficiently meet legal requirements. Developed for members of the Alliance, the Governance Fast Start for GENIVI Members is a joint offering from Black Duck, Olliance Group and BearingPoint.

The package is a workshop-style consultative and advisory service designed for automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. Created to accelerate the adoption of in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) platforms based on GENIVI specifications and address the specific needs of business executives, system architects and senior technical staff and developers, the program will enable participants to:

  • Enhance R&D capabilities
  • Shorten time-to-market
  • Reduce development costs
  • Maximize the value of FOSS assets

“Auto innovation is happening faster than ever – thanks, in part, to the use of open source software – so implementing strategic management and license compliance processes will be key to success” said Tim Yeaton, President and CEO, Black Duck Software. “Fast Start helps GENIVI Alliance members quickly create and implement these policies across supply chains, reducing the time and energy needed to develop license compliance programs and thus freeing up more time for the business of innovation.”

The Governance Fast Start for GENIVI Members Program

The Governance Fast Start for GENIVI Members is a series of modules that can be delivered over a period of three-to-five days. The central module is the Open Source Management Assessment (OSMA) which provides a holistic evaluation of the participating organization’s FOSS management infrastructure and identifies gaps based on GENIVI FOSS licensing policy.

The program helps organizations create crucial FOSS policy and implementation roadmaps to ensure the proper management and compliance of open source obligations. The policy and roadmaps are customized based on an organization’s OSMA results, and the program also provides stakeholder-specific training and technical open source management education.
“The GENIVI Alliance is a perfect example of a new software development paradigm with companies across the automotive industry using an open source model to their mutual benefit,” said Dr. Alexander Krzepinski, Head of Product Lifecycle Management at BearingPoint. “License compliance is critical to maintain this kind of cooperation. Black Duck, Olliance Group and BearingPoint’s experience, as embodied in the Fast Start package, enables GENIVI members to implement the processes required to efficiently ensure license compliance.”
