How big of a role did health information exchanges play in providing access to records during Superstorm Sandy, and what lessons can be learned? Federal officials will address these questions, says HIE expert Lee Stevens.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, federal officials will re-evaluate recommendations for using health information exchanges to facilitate patient record sharing during disasters, says Stevens, the policy director of state health information exchange programs at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT.

"I think in every disaster we experience lessons on how to do things better," Stevens says in an interview with HealthcareInfoSecurity.
