Transition at FrontlineSMS: Credit – Announcing Kopo Kopo and Introducing Nathan Wyeth

In addition to producing award-winning open-source software that empowers social change organizations all over the world to use SMS in their work, FrontlineSMS serves a catalyst for innovation and new ideas. Since 2008, five new sister projects have been developed by individuals and creative institutions who recognize the potential of the software in specific thematic areas: first health, then mobile money, and now education, community radio, and the legal sector.

Ben Lyon joined the FrontlineSMS Family in late 2009 to develop and launch FrontlineSMS:Credit. The initiative aimed to lower costs and reach new people by utilizing the mobile money networks that have sprung up across Africa to allow small microfinance organizations and entrepreneurs to manage transactions themselves for the first time.
