Too Great a Thing to Leave Undone: Defense of Agriculture
On November 5, 2019, the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense will convene a meeting, Too Great a Thing to Leave Undone: Defense of Agriculture, to inform its continuing assessment of the biological threat, specific vulnerabilities, and overwhelming consequences to agricultural producers. In its October 2017 report, Defense of Animal Agriculture, the Commission explored the need to address vulnerabilities to animal health. Now the Commission intends to revisit and add to its previous recommendations, expanding its review to include other aspects of agricultural security, including the role played by land grant universities and public-private partnerships in safeguarding the nation. OpenHIE 2019 Conference in Ethiopia
The OpenHIE community will hold its second annual community meeting November 4-8, 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Between 200 and 300 individuals are expected to attend with the ultimate goal of development and efficient and effective operation of national and regional health information exchanges. Cyberbio Convergence: Characterizing the Multiplicative Threat
The cyber and biological scientific arenas are converging rapidly. While the government recognizes that the nation is vulnerable to cyber attacks and continues to invest enormous resources into their prevention, response, and recovery, it invests far less in countering biological attacks. These two areas of science and technology are beginning to converge now, making the nation increasingly unsafe and insecure. On September 17, 2019, we will convene a meeting of the Study Panel, Cyberbio Convergence: Characterizing the Multiplicative Threat to inform our continuing assessment of the biological threat, specific vulnerabilities, and overwhelming consequences.

44th Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop
Since 1975, the Natural Hazards Center has hosted the Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop in Colorado. Today the Workshop brings together over 500 federal, state, and local mitigation and emergency management officials; representatives of nonprofit, private sector, and humanitarian organizations; hazards and disaster researchers; and others dedicated to alleviating the impacts of disasters. Our Theme: This year, the Workshop will be organized around the theme of Convergence, which refers to the process of people joining forces to respond to pressing challenges and enduring problems. These connections often require the crossing of boundaries, whether they be disciplinary, organizational, geographic, cultural, political, or otherwise. This work can be challenging, but it is also where fundamental breakthroughs in science and application are most likely to occur.

OSEHRA 2019 Summit
The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) will be holding its 8th Annual Open Source Summit from Tuesday, July 9 through Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, just north of Washington, D.C. Titled "Open SaaS - Open Source in the Cloud," this year's two-day Summit will showcase leading-edge, open source initiatives and highlight the increasing level of public-private partnership in major programs and agencies. Open source software has become key to both implementation and interoperability as more and more programs opt for cloud-based solutions and software-as-a-service delivery models. This Summit will address ways to optimize open source utilization and community involvement in this new playing field.
