U.S. Open Government Directive

The President of the United States instructed the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to issue an Open Government Directive in 2009.  It is intended to direct executive departments and agencies to take specific actions to implement the principles of transparency, participation, and collaboration set forth in the President’s Memorandum. 

This memorandum requires executive departments and agencies to take the following steps toward the goal of creating a more open government:

  • Publish Government Information Online
  • Improve the Quality of Government Information
  • Create and Institutionalize a Culture of Open Government
  • Create an Enabling Policy Framework for Open Government
