Red Hat Strengthens Asia-Pacific Operations with the Expansion of Two R&D Centers in India
The “Engineering Center of Excellence” in Pune is Red Hat’s largest engineering facility outside of North America
Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the expansion and launch of two “Engineering Centers of Excellence” in Bangalore and Pune, India. The Pune center is Red Hat’s largest engineering facility outside of North America at 50,000 sq. ft.
Red Hat’s expanded Asia-Pacific (APAC) operations are driven by growing market interest across the region in open source technologies and Red Hat products and solutions.
Located in two of India’s most prominent IT hubs, Pune and Bangalore, the newly inaugurated facilities reflect Red Hat’s increased investments in the country. With the expansion in India, Red Hat hopes to incubate, sustain and support local talent and maintain high quality of contributions to the open source community locally and internationally.
According to Evans Data's Global Developer Population and Demographic Survey1 conducted in 2011, India is among the rising technology powerhouses and by 2015, India will surpass the United States with more than 3.5 million professional software developers.
“2012 is the year of the developer for Red Hat and with a growing number of developers coming from India, Red Hat brought several notable global developer events to APAC – Fedora Users and Developers’ Conference (FUDCon) in November 2011 in Pune and JBoss User and Developers Conference (JUDCon) in January 2012 in Bangalore,” said Anuj Kumar, general manager, Red Hat India. “With our new facilities and events like this, we hope to continue showing our commitment to developers throughout the APAC region.”
The Red Hat engineering team in India works closely with local educational institutions, research bodies, and agencies involved in formulating standards and to support the proliferation and adoption of open standards in interactions.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Pune, Paul Cormier, executive vice president, products and technologies, Red Hat, said, “Innovative product development and engineering services are the cornerstone of any company with global aspirations and we expect the current expansion to further Red Hat’s goal to lead the way in innovative collaboration and open source technology development locally, regionally and globally.”
