Palomar Pomerado Health Unveils Wireless Health-Care Application for Mobile Devices

Press Release | Palomar Pomerado Health | February 21, 2011

Imagine your physician having the ability to make critical decisions that could affect your health by having real time, accurate information in the palm of their hand. Lab reports, drug allergies, vitals, and radiology images... access to your medical record on the go, anytime, anywhere.

Palomar Pomerado Health (PPH) is pleased to introduce today, MIAA, a mobile health-care application that will transform the way physicians receive information, and ultimately improving their medical judgments for patients. MIAA -- Medical Information, Anytime, Anywhere, represents the next generation of mobile wireless health care solutions, once thought of as a futuristic possibility, made available today.

MIAA is an innovative mobile application and the first of its kind to be developed by a health system in the U.S. It enables physicians to immediately access a patient's complete health record, from a variety of different sources spanning organizational boundaries, delivered in real time to Google Android(TM) powered mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets.

"This new technology will improve patient care by taming the complexity of health care, and reducing the current hassle inherent in a highly fragmented industry," said Ben Kanter, MD, chief medical informatics officer and pulmonologist, PPH. "Physicians who are on the go, at home or on call, will have the ability to access real time information in context. This will lead to more accurate medical judgments, ultimately improving patient care." PPH will publicly unveil MIAA for the first time with CISCO, during a live demonstration at the annual HIMSS conference, Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society -- on February 21, 2011 in Orlando, Florida.

MIAA not only provides immediate access to electronic health records across organizational boundaries, but also incorporates real time vital signs from next generation wireless body area network platforms.

"PPH has staked out a leading industry position by developing its own mobile health-care informatics platform," said Orlando Portale, chief innovation officer, PPH. "The MIAA development effort represents a significant leap forward for health care provider organizations, by leveraging next generation mobile technology to break down the adoption barriers for the physician user community. We are eager to share MIAA with the health care industry, and encourage increased investments in wireless health care solutions." The MIAA application was developed over a period of eight months.
