USM Wins Top Award At MyGOSS Awards 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) --Universiti Sains Malaysia's Advanced Medical and Dental Institute for the i-Care2x product, a solution using i-Care on the Ubuntu operating system, won the top award at the Malaysian Government Open Source Software (MyGOSS) Awards 2012 today.

The product is a hospital information system accessible on the Internet from any personal computer, tablet or smartphone. It also integrates with the existing Radiology Information System and is in the process of being integrated with its Laboratory Information System.

Hosted by the Malaysia Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), the MyGOSS Awards 2012 was held in conjunction with the Malaysian Government Open Source Software Conference (MyGOSSCON) 2012.

The National Creative Multimedia Content Competition (NCMCC) was also held at the MyGOSSCON 2012. "The MyGOSS Award 2012 is proof of the government's commitment in recognising and appreciating organisations and individuals who demonstrate initiative and excellence in every facet of implementation and usage of information and communications technology based on open-source software (OSS).

"The NCMCC 2012 enhances talent and creativity of the public sector's human capital, in particular in the education sector, to build up a new generation of skilled personnel in the use and development of OSS," said MAMPU Director- General Datuk Mohamad Zabidi Zainal.

The MyGOSS 2012 Award attracted 36 submissions from diverse government agencies while the NCMCC drew in 126 contestants, said MAMPU. The total prize money for winners is RM28,200.

In addition to the awards, other highlights of MyGOSSCON 2012 include plenary, forum and track conference sessions, a birds-of-a-feather session and launching of new editions of books on OSS policies and guidelines.
