BayScribe announced the successful deployment of the BayScribe Clinical Documentation System (CDS) at Oroville Hospital in Oroville, CA, providing dictation, transcription and structured, coded data solutions, including ICD-9/10 via IMO.

Oroville Hospital is a 154-bed acute care hospital that was at the end of the useful life of their dictation and transcription platform and felt that it was time for more than just a newer model or version, especially as the demands on interoperable documentation continue to increase. “Instead of replacing the old platform with a new single-purpose system, we decided we needed more functionality including receiving patients reports complete with discrete data, and we felt BayScribe was the best option”, stated Amy Czahor, RHIT, and HIM Director at Oroville. “We are working closely with BayScribe to create Case Management, CDI and Quality tools that directly benefit our facility, our users – custom tools we need to improve efficiency and reimbursement” concluded Mrs. Czahor.

Another key element of the selection criteria was BayScribe’s ability to convert historical reports from the prior system and import them into BayScribe so all of the reports would be searchable and viewable in a single location. Both Mrs. Czahor and Dr. Narrinder Singh, CMIO at Oroville, were emphatic that the new system contained all of the historical transcriptions – just over 700,000 reports, spanning seven years. “We needed to ensure that we could search for all transcriptions in a single system so as to not create additional work for the physicians”, commented Dr. Singh. In addition to converting and importing all of the historical reports, BayScribe also customized some of the Search functionality to reduce the amount of training required for the physicians.
Oroville is considered a thought leader and an innovator having become the first WorldVistA implementation to attain Meaningful Use certification last summer. The long-term plan is to have the providers dictations transcribed and converted into discrete data that populates key fields directly in WorldVistA. The Oroville providers document with a high degree of detail, and BayScribe will provide the mechanism to complete the documentation lifecycle through to WorldVistA.
