Epic Grabs VA Software Contract

The deal is nowhere near the $4.3 billon that DoD awarded Cerner and Leidos for the first phase, of course, but it does hold the potential for a big payoff – publicity-wise at least – because the work Epic and SMS signed up to undertake addresses one of VA's most public pain points: patient scheduling.

Lockheed subsidiary, Epic win $624M VA patient scheduling contract

The Veterans Affairs Department has awarded a $624 million contract to Systems Made Simple, Syracuse, N.Y., a subsidiary of giant defense and national security contractor Lockheed Martin, Bethesda, Md., to overhaul its medical appointment scheduling system at its Veterans Health Administration healthcare system. Epic Systems Corp., Verona, Wis., will supply the software to the VA, the company confirmed.

VA picks Systems Made Simple to head new scheduling system

Systems Made Simple has been picked by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to create its new scheduling system. The Lockheed Martin-owned company will be responsible for the VA's Medical Appointment Scheduling System (MASS), which is "one component of the department's strategy to provide state of the art electronic health record, scheduling, workflow management, and analytics capabilities to front line caregivers serving veterans," according to an announcement.
