Linux Foundation Launches Public Health Initiative to Respond to COVID-19 and Future Pandemics with Open Source Solutions
The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization enabling mass innovation through open source, today launched a new initiative to use open source technologies to help public health authorities (PHAs) around the world combat COVID-19 and future epidemics. The new Linux Foundation Public Health (LFPH) initiative is launching with seven Premier members - Cisco, doc.ai, Geometer, IBM, NearForm, Tencent, and VMware - and two hosted exposure notifications projects, COVID Shield and COVID Green, which are currently being deployed in Canada, Ireland, and several U.S. states.

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) today announced the formation of a new healthcare technology alliance, combining the expertise of leading health IT providers, medical technology companies, and academic institutions to advance public health. The Lockheed Martin Healthcare Technology Alliance's founding members include: Cisco, Cloudera, Illumina, Intel and Montgomery College...[they] will collaborate on technology solutions that help improve care in rapidly evolving and growing areas of health technology such as those that: secure patient medical information; leverage advances in genomic research; and apply big data solutions to improve public health.

Lockheed subsidiary, Epic win $624M VA patient scheduling contract
The Veterans Affairs Department has awarded a $624 million contract to Systems Made Simple, Syracuse, N.Y., a subsidiary of giant defense and national security contractor Lockheed Martin, Bethesda, Md., to overhaul its medical appointment scheduling system at its Veterans Health Administration healthcare system. Epic Systems Corp., Verona, Wis., will supply the software to the VA, the company confirmed.
