Startup ResearchGate, a social network for scientists, has raised $35 million in Series C financing led by Bill Gates and Tenaya Capital for its goal of making scientific research more transparent.

Dragoneer Investment Group, Thrive Capital and existing investors Benchmark and Founders Fund also participated in the round.

Founded in 2008, ResearchGate is a social network for scientists who can post information about their work, such as publications and skills on their profiles on the site. Scientists use the site to find collaborators for research, who may be hard to otherwise find, particularly in certain specific areas, says Ijad Madisch, cofounder and CEO of ResearchGate.
