DoD Awards Contract For Vendor Neutral Patient Image Archive

The Department of Defense is contracting with the Bloomington, Minnesota-based software and data management firm Acuo Technologies to manage a vendor-neutral patient image archive, in a deal worth $40 million over nine years.

Using a universal clinical platform, Acuo will will consolidate imaging studies from picture archiving and communication systems at 39 Army and 23 Navy sites scattered across U.S. military healthcare facilities throughout the world.

The project is part of the Pentagon's health IT integration project, making all its clinical content available to every military physician across the globe at any time. The new archive will use Dell's storage hardware, and Acuo's Universal Clinical Platform will host the vendor neutral archive, using HL-7 integration standards, and aims ultimately to host and manage upwards of 25 million patient imaging studies...
