White House Safety Datapalooza Showcases Tools That Make A Difference

In May, DOT partnered with the Obama Administration's Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) to launch the Safety Data Initiative. The result, safety.data.gov, is an effort to release freely available government data to build products, services, and apps that advance public safety in creative and powerful ways.

From transportation to the workplace and from crime to consumer product recalls, we know that access to timely information empowers people to make smarter, safer choices. So we have made a concerted effort to make good data more easily accessible, hoping that others will find new ways to put it to work through innovative apps and other services.

At our launch, we issued a call to innovators to build tools that will make a difference in Americans' lives. And now, just four months later, we're happy to say that the Safety Data Initiative is doing exactly that.
