Veterans Affairs Selects HP To Continue Support Of VistA System

Press Release | Hewlett-Packard (HP) | November 16, 2012

Software applications provide fully automated health information system

HP today announced it has been awarded a five-year, $39 million contract from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to continue providing operations and maintenance software applications support for VA’s Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA).

As a part of the task order under the VA T-4 contract, HP will provide defect remediation and table maintenance for more than 100 applications across the VA network, enabling the prompt, reliable resolution of patient safety issues as well as timely, complete and tested solutions. The contract extends HP’s 10-year involvement with the VistA system, and the company’s relationship with the VA, which has spanned more than 14 years.

The VistA system provides 130 VA healthcare facilities and 783 ambulatory care and community-based outpatient clinics with a fully automated health information system supporting the needs of veterans, clinicians and administrators. The VistA software provides automated data processing capabilities, which enhances healthcare providers’ access to veterans’ healthcare information and improves the effectiveness and efficiency of care at VA healthcare facilities nationwide.

“Ensuring that veterans across the country have access to safe, reliable healthcare is a top priority for VA,” said Marilyn Crouther, senior vice president and general manager, U.S. Public Sector, HP Enterprise Services. “HP has the expertise to address issues with applications used nationwide, by veterans, clinicians and administrators throughout the VA, and continues to place the utmost importance on software issues affecting patient safety.”

HP also will team with two small businesses, Enlightened, an information-technology and management consulting  firm; and PruTech Solutions, a business support and information technology consulting company, to complete the project.

HP’s premier Europe, Middle East and Africa client event, HP Discover, takes place Dec. 4-6 in Frankfurt, Germany.
