Open Source, Open Standards, and Health Care Information Systems

The March 2011 edition of the Journal of Medical Internet Research has published a detailed analysis of  "Open Source, Open Standards, and Health Care Information Systems".  The journal article analyzes alternative licensing and software development models, as well as the role of standards. It describes how licensing affects development and argues for the superiority of open source licensing to promote safer, more effective health care information systems. The authors claim that open source licensing in health care information systems is essential to a more rational procurement strategy by organizations.
