Open source health IT leader lends industry expertise to ICD-10 improvement project for essential systems in the Veterans Health Administration

CARLSBAD, CA—Medsphere Systems Corporation, the leading provider of open source  electronic health record (EHR) solutions and services derived from the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) VistA EHR, today announced that the company is expanding its federal business. Medsphere is serving as a subcontractor to Adams Communication and Engineering Technology (ACET) Corporation related to a contract for integrated testing of International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) enhancements to Veterans Health Administration systems.

The VHA ICD-10 program office has contracted with ACET and Medsphere to augment and enhance the standard ProPath testing process. The necessity of additional integration testing is the result of unique software enhancements required for ICD-10.
In addition to established governmental relationships with the VA, the Department of Defense and the Indian Health Service, Medsphere also provides non-federal hospitals with a comprehensive, affordable health IT platform in the OpenVista electronic health record. More than simply a health IT solution, OpenVista is also a platform for workflow optimization and clinical transformation services in pursuit of improved financial efficiency and better patient care.

Medsphere’s subscription-based pricing model enables hospital, clinic and integrated delivery network customers to pay for OpenVista from their operating budget with no upfront costs or back-end balloon payments. Expert implementation and other services facilitate fluid and rapid transition to a paperless clinical environment focusing on best practices and evidence-based medicine in six to nine months.
