Cal Collins

Cal Collins has served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OpenClinica since the company's founding in 2006. During this time he has spearheaded the development of the OpenClinica software, which has become the world’s leading open source system for Electronic Data Capture (EDC) in clinical trials. He helped lead the formation and growth of the OpenClinica open source community into a dynamic entity of over 15,000 members, and in 2010 oversaw the launch of OpenClinica Enterprise, a turnkey, subscription-based, fully supported EDC solution suitable for use in regulated research environments.

Cal was awarded, as Principal Investigator, over $1.4 million in health informatics research grant funding from the National Institutes of Health, which provided the initial funding for OpenClinica's development. He has also led or served as co-investigator for research informatics subcontracts and grants from the National Cancer Institute, the NIH’s Center for Information Technology, and the National Science Foundation.

Prior to OpenClinica, Cal helped found and served as Chief Technology Officer of the technology consulting firm Isovera. At Isovera, he led projects with leading scientific and research institutions in data standards and technology for clinical research, biology education, systems biology, and digital library science.

Cal is a 2001 graduate magna cum laude of Harvard College, where he concentrated in Environmental Science and Public Policy and played rugby and football. When not working or spending time with his twin boys, age 3, Cal enjoys sailing, basketball, reading, and messing around with new, preferably open source, technologies.
